    Safe Burning

As we all know, our area has been greatly affected by fires this season.  While there is no long a burning ban in effect for our county, you should still use caution when burning materials in your yard.  We are still under some very dry conditions which could cause even the smallest fire to grow out of control quickly.

When burning, make sure you have the tools necessary to control the fire:
    • Shovels
    • Water Hose
    • Rakes
         NEVER LEAVE THE FIRE UNATTENDED!!!

Also, don't burn illegal materials in your yard.  You CAN burn the following:
    • Yard Trimmings up to 6" in diameter
    • Campfire
    • Outdoor BBQ
    • Bonfires for festive events
    • Open vegetation up to 6" in diameter
You CAN NOT burn the following:
    • Garbage, paper, plastic, cardboard
    • Tires and other rubber products
    • Insulation off wiring
    • Building materials
    • Asphalt shingles for roofing
    • Paints or household/agricultural chemicals
A good rule of thumb to remember is this:

If it grew in your yard, you can burn it

If you have any questions regarding what you can and can not burn, please contact our office at 252-526-6666 and we will be happy to discuss what you plan to burn and help you find ways to do it in a safe and responsible manner.
